Have you ever walked into a place and immediately felt at home? Maybe it was a warm smile, the smell of fresh coffee, or simply someone taking the time to make you feel welcome. Those little moments remind us how much genuine hospitality matters.
In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, people are longing for real community. The good news is that building community doesn’t require a perfect home or elaborate plans. It simply begins with a willing heart.
The Bible encourages us in Romans 12:13 to “Practice hospitality.” Hospitality isn’t just about inviting people into our homes—it’s about making others feel seen, loved, and valued wherever we are.
Community starts right where God has placed us. It can begin with a conversation over the fence, inviting a friend over for coffee, checking on an elderly neighbor, or sending a handwritten note to encourage someone who may be having a difficult week. Even a simple smile can brighten someone’s day.
Here are a few easy ways to show hospitality:
- Invite someone over for coffee or dessert.
- Bake a treat for a neighbor.
- Welcome a new family to your neighborhood.
- Offer to pray for a friend.
- Write a thoughtful note of encouragement.
- Take time to truly listen when someone needs to talk.
Remember, hospitality isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. People won’t remember if your house was spotless or if the meal was fancy. They’ll remember how you made them feel.
This week, ask God to show you one person you can encourage. One small act of kindness can make a lasting difference and remind someone they are loved.
At Grace Filled Cottage, we believe the sweetest homes are those filled with kindness, grace, and open hearts. May we be people who build community one warm welcome at a time.
Blessings,
Michelle
